Jason is a filmmaker, living in New York City.  While we were recording, he was staring out his window at the Empire State building.  I was staring at my French Bulldog’s butt.  Both, I am sure, are sights to behold.

Jason’s story is a beautiful, tear jerking, inspiring tale of someone losing their body due to Primary Progressive Multiple Sclerosis.  But I didn’t interview him solely because he has a debilitating disease.  I interviewed him, because he has somehow used the incredible magic of a creative mind to not only bring awareness to his illness, but to use his craft to play with and tease at and dress something devestating in small moments of beauty through his film.

Jason and I talk about his film, When I Walk, his struggle with MS, losing his son, and the creative journey he has been on, “despite and even because of his disease”.  And that’s all what we’re about over here on the Chronically Well podcast – Living beautifully curated and insanely creative, purpose filled lives…WITH chronic illness.

Jason’s film, When I Walk can be watched on Amazon Prime, or check out the website here. When We Walk: here.

“And while I miss the incredible spontaneity and unlimited access to the city I had—and am developing ways to make that more of a possibility for those with mobility challenges through AXS Map…—my diagnosis was not the end of the world. Instead, and with a bit of determination, it has proven to be a new way for me to see and be in the world. This was the voice and heart that emerged in the film, almost more through its own will than mine. As director, my role was to foster that spirit, to learn to adapt, and enjoy the ride.” – Jason Dasilva
