Jump
Jump is a memoir about chronic illness and the loss of identity which ultimately is endured. However, more than that, it was the author’s year and a half journey into the truth pain illuminates. Jump is a plea to medical and mental health professionals to see the humanity in patients – to possibly offer more than pamphlets and meds and the occasional pat on the back. It is a realization into the medical system and the gas lighting which comes when no-one believes symptoms not often reported. It is a revelation of grief and survival. But more than any of this, it is a glimpse into the story so many live: when hardship teaches presence, dark reveals light, and illness uncovers all that is necessary to wake up and finally, actually live.
